Lead Hazard Reduction
- Lead Hazard Reduction (LEAP Baltimore) : Operation LEAP Baltimore provides window replacement and lead hazard reduction services to families (rental and homeowners) living in targeted zip codes of East and West Baltimore. Lead Hazard Reduction activities may include window replacement, paint stabilization, and minor carpentry work all performed according to lead safe work standards and followed by cleaning and clearance testing.
- Emergency Cleaning: After a child has been chelated, their body will absorb lead at 3 times the previous rate. It is critical that poisoned children return to the safest possible environment. The Hazard Reduction team provides emergency cleans to families of lead poisoned children before they return to the home post-chelation and when necessary to decrease exposure after a lower-level blood lead content has been identified.
- Federal, State and Private Grant and Loan Programs: Various grant and loan programs exist to help state property owners and childcare providers make their properties lead safe. All Federal and State grant and loan awards require the use of a Maryland Certified Contractor to ensure lead safe work practices are used.
- Lead-Safe Work Practices Training: Maryland Certified Supervisors and workers are available to help advise and train homeowners on lead safe work practices. A brief 20 minute overview for volunteers working on housing rehabilitation efforts is also available to organizations organizing work and improvement projects that involve disturbing paint. Before you begin any work on a home built before 1978, please contact the Coalition to learn how to work safely.
