Local Laws

In Maryland, local county health and/or housing departments may have additional laws that relate to lead paint and lead hazards.  Consult the full text of your local housing code for more detailed information regarding a specific County's requirements for the condition of interior and exterior surfaces.  Below is a listing of selected county housing coes that reference lead paint, lead paint hazards and/or chipping, peeling paint:

Baltimore City Housing Code – Section 703
Baltimore City Building, Fire, and Related Codes § 301.4.et al.
Baltimore City Health Code § 4-601 through § 4-609
Baltimore County Code – Section 18-78(h) Lead paint Abatement
Cecil County Code – 240-9.A. Maintenance

Reminder:  The Maryland Reduction of Lead Risk in Housing Law is a state law that applies in addition to local housing codes.

COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT REGULATIONS

Several local health Departments also have specific regulations dealing with lead paint, lead hazards and lead abatement measures.  These regulations provide standards for the issuance of Health Department Lead Violations, the lead hazard reduction measures required to be performed, proper lead-safe work practices, and lead abatement clearance levels.  Ask your local health Department if they have county lead abatement regulations.
